Magnetic nulls in interacting dipolar fields

چکیده
The prominence of nulls in reconnection theory is due to the expected singular current density and indeterminacy field-lines at a magnetic null. Electron inertia changes implications both features. Magnetic field lines are distinguishable only when their distance closest approach exceeds $\Delta_d$. ensures $\Delta_d\gtrsim c/\omega_{pe}$. that lie within flux tube radius $\Delta_d$ place where strength $B$ strongest fundamentally indistinguishable. If tube, somewhere along its length, encloses point $B=0$,vanishes, then come no closer null than $\approx (a^2c/\omega_{pe})^{1/3}$, $a$ characteristic spatial scale field. behavior presence studied for dipole embedded spatially constant In addition distinguishability, constraint on obtained, time required thin sheets arise derived.

Non-dipolar magnetic fields in Ap stars
An arbitrary initial magnetic field in an A star evolves into a stable equilibrium. Simulations are presented of the formation of non-axisymmetric equilibria consisting of twisted flux tubes meandering under the surface of the star, and analytic arguments are given relating the stability and form of these equilibria. These results may help to explain observations of Ap stars with very non-dipol...
متن کاملCoupled states of electromagnetic fields with magnetic-dipolar-mode vortices: Magnetic-dipolar-mode vortex polaritons
A coupled state of an electromagnetic field with an electric or magnetic dipole-carrying excitation is well known as a polariton. Such a state is the result of the mixing of a photon with the excitation of a material. The most discussed types of polaritons are phonon polaritons, exciton polaritons, and surface-plasmon polaritons. Recently, it was shown that, in microwaves, strong magnon-photon ...
متن کاملThe non-dipolar magnetic fields of accreting T Tauri stars
Models of magnetospheric accretion on to classical T Tauri stars often assume that stellar magnetic fields are simple dipoles. Recently published surface magnetograms of BP Tau and V2129 Oph have shown, however, that their fields are more complex. The magnetic field of V2129 Oph was found to be predominantly octupolar. For BP Tau the magnetic energy was shared mainly between the dipole and octu...
متن کاملUnusual magnetic fields in the interacting spiral NGC 3627
By observing the interacting galaxy NGC 3627 in radio polarization we try to answer the question to which degree the magnetic field follows the galactic gas flows. We obtained total power and polarized intensity maps at 8.46 GHz and 4.85 GHz using the VLA in its compact D-configuration. In order to overcome the zero-spacing problems, the interferometric data were combined with single-dish measu...
متن کاملCritical temperature of weakly interacting dipolar condensates.
We calculate perturbatively the effect of a dipolar interaction upon the Bose-Einstein condensation temperature. This dipolar shift depends on the angle between the symmetry axes of the trap and the aligned atomic dipole moments, and is extremal for parallel or orthogonal orientations, respectively. The difference of both critical temperatures exhibits most clearly the dipole-dipole interaction...
